Dr. Nibble Fish

Today my friend Kara and I went to the fish spa. First a little history: The fish spa experience started in Turkey to treat various skin conditions such as psoriasis and minor eczema. It also exfoliates your skin, promotes blood circulation and releases tension and stress! The fish feed on your skin (dead skin only, they leave the healthy alone)! Crazy!

And you may ask "How sanitary are these places?" and I say "VERY!". They make you wash your feet before you go in and they clean the water daily and use filtered water. There were three different tanks and each one had better or more "intense" nibblers than the last! It was a fun and unique experience!

The fish in this tank liked Kara's feet better, so I moved on.... :)

I'm wearing fish boots!

This was the 3rd and last tank with the biggest nibblers. I just stuck my feet in for a second, it was too much for me. I'll stick to the middle tank!

You scream, I scream, we all scream for Turkish Ice Cream!

Friday night we went and had Turkish ice cream after dinner! It's definitely different than "our" ice cream but the guy was very entertaining while serving it to us. A fun experience and cheap ice cream!

Underwater World and a Blizzard

Saturday we went out to Underwater World, a 'suped' up aquarium! There is a travellator (moving sidewalk) that takes you through a tunnel where fish and sharks are swimming all around you. I was the brave one had had my picture taken with snakes and fed the sting rays. Feeding the sting rays was pretty cool. You put a piece of food between two fingers and slide it down the side of the tank and they literally suck it out of your fingers. The splashing and noise they make was startling at first but I got used it! Enjoy the pictures!

We ended our day with a yummy Dairy Queen blizzard. Yes, they have a Dairy Queen kiosk and yes, the blizzards taste just like home!

Singapore Sling

Yesterday, my friend Kara and I went out to Sentosa Island to give the casinos another shot. We went a couple of weekends ago to celebrate her birthday but with it being a new casino and evening, we had little success; it was super crowded and all the tables and machines weren’t open so there was literally no where to sit. So, we thought we would try it during the day. The tables were still crowded but there were plenty of two cent, nickel and dime slots open for us “big” gamblers. Neither of us won big but it was a good time!

After the casinos we went and had lunch on the beach along with a Singapore Sling. Now when I first heard “Singapore Sling” I automatically thought dance (sling, swing…confusion makes sense :) ) But no, it’s not a dance, it’s a strong, fruity drink that will make you want to dance. To walk off our Singapore Sling we made our way over to the Southernmost point in Continental Asia…pretty cool!

Kara and I with our Singapore Slings!

Me before walking over the suspension bridge to get to the Southernmost point!

Senor Taco

Friday night Ryan and I went to Senor Taco, a taco stand in Clarke Quay. It was so yummy and reminded us of home. We stayed there for about 3 hours enjoying the Coronas, tacos and good music. We eventually met up with some of people from Ryan's work for a birthday but I think we could have stayed at Senor Taco all night. It was a fun atmosphere with great service, we almost forgot we were in Asia, almost.

The Day Jill Saw a Monkey and Fainted

I felt the need to make my first entry on Jill’s blog today. Jill had been asking me all week to take her to a park here called Macritchie Reservoir Park. We loaded up around noon today and went to the park for a hike. As those of you that know me well, hiking is exactly how I like to spend my weekends. However, I was told that we might see some monkeys so I have to admit I was pretty excited.

Sure enough, not far into our hike we spotted some monkeys in a part of the forest that had been cleared. Judging by their reaction to us when we walked up, I think they may have seen people once or twice. They didn’t even acknowledge us, they just kept eating and sleeping like no one was around. So, I might have misled you with the title, Jill didn’t actually faint when she saw a monkey that part comes later. We continued our trip into the forest. Did I mention it was hot? Shortly we spotted a different type of monkey; these were smaller and were doing acrobatics from tree to tree.

Now we have started back towards the car but of course it started to pour. I guess that is why they call it rain forest? So we started running to the nearest cover we could find. Luckily, there was a covered park bench les s than 200 yds away and we were able to get under it before we got too wet. Now before you imagine some large covered park pavilion, let me stop you. This was a covered seating area big enough for about 4 people. Now that wouldn’t be that bad if we had of found it first but two large Chinese families were already squeezed underneath. Honestly, they couldn’t have been nicer.

After standing underneath this crowded park covering for an hour, Jill whispers that she is getting light headed. This warning came about two seconds before she fainted. I mentioned that it was hot. Fortunately, I was able to catch her before she fell. Our new friends had some water so we were able to get Jill nursed back to health. The rain broke shortly after and we headed back home unharmed but I will always remember it as the day Jill saw a monkey and fainted.
